Gucci Cruise 2016 Takes New York City
This morning in New York City, Gucci showed their 2016 cruise collection at the Dia Art Foundation in Chelsea. This marks the new creative director, Alessandro Michele’s first Cruise Fashion Show! To start, Gucci spared no expense when it came to this show. According to Style.com “Gucci blocked off 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues for the event so that models could cross the street into the carpeted space where guests were seated on chairs with custom prints designed specifically for the show by Alessandro Michele”. Gucci also flew those from around the world to come see this show.
The show started out with garage doors opening to the street parallel to the building. Then models cross the street, walking into the show set. Silhouettes were that of the 60’s and 70’s among many eclectic pieces. Glasses were also a subject, of what seems to be becoming the new Gucci staple. I have a major love for glasses, so it was refreshing to see vintage styles coming back. It is the details in this collection that make the clothes what they are, from fur tim on coats to tigers spiraling around dresses. Gucci has changed from the times of creative director Frida Giannini, but I think it was a change that was much needed for the house.
This yellow ensemble is one that could even make the likes of, Gossip Girl’s, Blair Waldorf jealous.
Now for some reason, this look reminds me a lot of my Nonna (grandma in Italian). I feel like this is something she would have worn in her younger years in Italy. Although, this recognition could be because she wore this nightgown that used to have the same type of quilting. Above all, she would have looked very chic in this look, strolling around the cobble stone streets in Cansano.
