MY LAST MONTH IN NEW YORK // SKY BRIDGE
Well, the time has come for me to say bye to New York City for a little while. As this internship comes to a close, I just wanted to share my final thoughts on this short three-month chapter of my life and my last month in new york.
Coming to this city, I didn’t know what to expect. I quickly learned that it is a much different lifestyle than that of Colorado. It is always busy, cars are honking, people are shouting, but I wouldn’t want it to be any other way. There is no other city like New York.
Much like anything in life, you have to learn and adapt to your new surroundings. I did that first with our apartment. Though it wasn’t as expected, we made the best of the situation and have come to call it home.
Next came working in a design office. You dream of moments like this, but they become much different than they may have seemed. For me, it was much better than I had anticipated. There are lovely people, fun tasks and you get to live and experience what you have studied in textbooks. I can’t wait to take all that I learned with me on to the next steps of my professional career.
Though I have been away for three months, you begin to meet new people and find friends you never knew could exist. For me, I have come to meet some of the most wonderful people, and I am happy to call them my friends.
With new friends, you also re-evaluate your current friendships. Being away can test the real value of those friendships. They require work and are not a one-way street. The ones that can stick around are the people you should surround yourself with. On the other hand, sometimes you have to move forward and accept that not all friends stick around forever and that’s okay.
If there is something that I am going to miss about this city, it would have to be the endless amounts of energy it has. Every day, I look up at all the buildings and smile knowing that I have been given such a fantastic opportunity to fulfill my dreams and now they are only just becoming a reality.
So, New York, it has been so much fun, and I can’t wait to hopefully come back to the city for my professional career. Stay tuned.
