Last Week Nicolas Ghesquière showcased his Louis Vuitton cruise 2016 collection in Palm Springs, CA. Leading up to this event, they utilized social media to the max (especially snapchat)! I was getting so many notifications about this show on all my media outlets. All the celebrities and journalists I follow, were Instagraming pics of invitations, which by the way must have been very expensive to print. Just look at Fashion Toast’s, Rumi Neely’s invitation:

I thought it was so cool that they were going to have the show in Palm Springs. What is the best place to show cruise wear if not in Palm Springs?! It was said that Louis Vuitton booked over 800 rooms in Palm Springs for celebrities, journalists, and clients to witness the event that was held the Bob Hope estate (which currently is for sale. $25 million!!). Nicolas Ghesquière has loved this house for many years, so it was only fitting that he do a show here.
Right at 6:15 (Palm Springs time) I sat at my computer waiting for the play button to appear. Once I hit that magical button, it began. Everyone sat quietly on their wood and plexiglass stools, waiting. Then came the first model, Rianne van Rompaey, who walked past the expertly placed glass windows to perch over the glass balcony. She then, descended down the stairs to the audience. Upon arrival, Rompaey took a pause and turned the knob of the large sound system that immediately produced the sweet sound of Rain by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Soon she and all the other models weaved their way through the rows of guests, around the pool, and past the likes of Kanye West (or should I say Dr. Kanye West), Grimes, Catherine Deneuve, Selena Gomez, and Michelle Williams.

Nicolas Ghesquière’s take on Louis Vuitton is very refreshing to see! Of course we loved Marc Jacobs, but it is cool to see a new vision at the house of Louis Vuitton. Nicolas, has such a cool esthetic that has captured the hearts of many, with his minimalist edge, big zippers, and leather waist pieces. He has now created some iconic bag that are coveted by many, including the Petite Malle, the Dora, and the Twist. To me this collection had a somewhat Star Wars/futuristic feel with the long skirts, dresses, and metallic accents. I mean it worked with the spaceship of a house, as a backdrop.
Soon after the show had ended, all the guests went straight to The Parker hotel for the carnivalesque afterparty, which included video games, bumper cars, and even a claw game stocked with Louis Vuitton wallets. So forget the stuffed animals, we want the WALLETS!

Needless to say, I would have killed to go to this show! I bet it was so fun! Who knows, maybe the next round…
