New York // My First Month
I wanted to share my thoughts on my first month in New York City!
As many of you know, I am here in New York for an internship that is a requirement for completion of my degree. I’m currently interning at Proenza Schouler, which for those of you who don’t know, is a high fashion company specializing in women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and fragrance.
I moved to New York specifically for this internship and will be here for a total of 12 weeks. I am currently in my sixth week, and I can’t believe how fast it has already gone.
Going on this journey, I had a slight idea of what to expect, but I have come to experience so much that I had never known before. I am a person who is always open to change and new skills as I believe it helps you grow as a person, even if it’s scary.
I have come to realize that this city is much different than the suburbs. There are things I took for granted living in Colorado. For one, you don’t have a car here. This didn’t bother me until the day I had to go grocery shopping! There was just too much to carry on the subway, so I had to uber home which is fine and all but makes you realize how easy it has a car.
The beautiful thing about the city, however, is that EVERYTHING is here! From the best food, best shopping, and entertainment you don’t get bored on this small island. Also, it’s a regular occurrence to bump into celebrities on the street. For instance, after taking these photos for this post, my friend Allie and I saw Sarah Jessica Parker! Another time I was walking out of my office building and Jake Gyllenhaal was walking in. Needless to say, you can fangirl quite often here.
With all the fun aside, it is easy to get a little homesick mainly if you have never spent an extended time away from friends and family in a completely different area of the world. However, I have learned that this helps you grow as a person. It’s about starting your life and venturing into a new realm of experience.
I can’t wait to keep sharing all my experiences with you! Stay tuned for more adventures. Also if you want to see my daily adventures, follow me on Instagram: @thesavoiedaily
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
