All Hail Oscar
Tradition never goes out of style. Oscar’s favorite flower was always a carnation. When guests arrived to the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2016 show on Tuesday, red carnations were placed on every gold seat. The red of the carnations was perfect emulated to the within the collection through prints and embroidery.
This collection stemed from bullfighters, thus of course giving it a Spanish feel. Black lace, Carmen pumps, and matador beading with cropped blazers perfectly reflected this idea. It has also been said that after a bullfight, red carnations are thrown into the ring. It is as if someone picked up those flowers and scattered them on the bottom of light blue heels.
Color was a great influence for now head designer, Peter Copping. Like Oscar, Copping has a great eye for color. Most of his inspiration from this collection came from paintings at the Hispanic Society of Harlem. From pale blue satin in the work of Goya, to baked yellow from Francis Bacon, Copping perfectly translated these colors into the collection.
I am also going to call out a trend for spring 2016, and that my friends is espadrilles! We already saw it at Altuzarra, and now Oscar. Who could be next? Stay tuned…We are looking at you London Fashion Week. The espadrilles at de la Renta were very elegant. Who wouldn’t want an embroidered espadrille?
This collection was so beautiful. Peter Copping has been a true gem at Vuitton, and Ricci, but now has kept the spirit of Oscar in his works. Please watch the collection in the video below, I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
Have a great weekend.
